WARD TREK

My little pioneer family getting ready to begin on our 3 day adventure. We all met at the church and lined up in our cars to head up to the site of our trek.

The boys rearing to go.....with no clue what was to lay ahead of them. Hard work, steep hills, lots of walking, pushing and pulling, creeks to cross, heat and thirst, small periods of doing it alone, and setting camp just to wake up and do it all again!
Mei enjoying her first bumpy ride. She preferred riding on the 4-wheeler and in the relief van!
Pal taking a much needed break. When he finally got it that when I asked for help cause I really needed it and not just to hear myself talk, he was wonderful!

After day 1 (the hardest day where they took away all the men and had the women and children pull up the steep hills alone) I realized I was in terrible shape and that there was NO WAY I could do the remainder of the journey without help. So help was sent in the form of these 2 handsome young men! Mike Wood and Alex Galbraith were my saviors for the remainder of the journey! Only problem was that they were so good, they didn't even need my help. I need to go again so I can scoot those boys over and take a turn!
By the end of the 3 days, I wish that we could go 3 more. My kids were finally getting it and I felt like I was able to do it. I learned a lot about myself and the things I need to improve on as a woman and as a parent and as a member of the church. What sweet life lessons I brought home.

That looks like a much harder trek then then one we did in YW back in the day! I remember I cried every night because I was so exhausted. I think you are a brave and strong woman to take your whole family and do a trek. Good for you!

Angie- I don't remember much about our trek when we were girls. I do recall some boulders that the guys had to lift the handcarts over. Where did we go for that one?
The hardest part about this family trek was that my husband couldn't make it. He was so busy with work. It made it a much more real experience for me. I gained such a love for the pioneer women who did the whole journey without a husband.

You are amazing to come, and do it alone. It was hard to have the husbands leave, but you who didn't have one were the real pioneers! I'm glad you came!

You are a warrior! I never did a trek as a youth and always thought it looked like so much fun - way to go!! Just reading about the pioneers makes me cry - I probably would have cried the whole way! I always thought those pioneer women must have been mighty stubborn and tough as nails to do what they did - especially those who went on their own after their husbands/children passed away. Thats what faith can do! PS. You guys look so cute in your pioneer clothes, I love your hat!
